This article explores the intersection of Sharia law and international human rights standards, focusing on their fundamental principles, areas of alignment, and points of divergence. It highlights that Sharia, rooted in Islamic divine revelations, emphasizes justice, social responsibility, and moral directives, while international human rights norms stress universality, equality, and individual freedoms. The paper identifies key alignments, such as justice, charity, and family values, while highlighting conflicts in areas like religious freedom, gender roles, and punitive practices. Recommendations for harmonization include fostering dialogue, legal reforms, and educational initiatives to bridge the gap between these frameworks. Additionally, the article discusses Sharia’s role in resolving family disputes in Pakistan’s Punjab province, specifically in marriage, divorce, and inheritance matters. Case studies demonstrate Sharia courts' influence in delivering Islamic justice while acknowledging challenges in gender equality and integration within the secular legal system. The article ultimately advocates for a balanced approach that respects religious beliefs while promoting universal human rights.
